ZANU PF Midlands Province has turned down 47 aspiring candidates who wanted to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary primary elections after they failed to meet the minimum requirements to represent the party.

On Saturday, Zanu PF accepted 157 CVs that were submitted by party members aspiring to be the revolutionary party’s parliamentary candidates in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Eight CVs were submitted for senatorial posts. Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairman Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube said the party was still compiling CVs submitted by council seats aspirants.

He said of those who submitted CVs for the parliamentary primaries 47 failed to meet the guidelines requirements.

“There are about 296 wards in the province and we are still compiling them. For parliamentary seats we received 157 and of these 47 failed to meet the guidelines requirements,” he said.

Notably, party stalwarts such as Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi will be contested and will fight it out for Zvishavane senatorial candidacy with National Railways of Zimbabwe board chair, Cde Larry Mavhima.

Minister of Transport, and Infrastructure Development, Dr Joram Gumbo will for the first time be contested in the primaries in Mberengwa West constituency after five other aspiring MPs submitted their CVs for the same seat.

Eng Ncube was uncontested for the Kwekwe Senatorial candidacy. Eng Ncube said the party will ensure the primary elections are free, fair and peaceful.

The party is set to release the full list of its candidates that will contest in the primaries next month.
