A LUPANE family has alleged that their daughter’s allegiance to her Christianity beliefs has seen her been targeted after she refused to participate in political events.

Thandekile Donga who is from Lupane, Matabeleland North is a devout Seventh Day Adventist church member.

However, it is the love for her church and beliefs that have got her into trouble with family members and her acquaintances saying supporters of the ruling Zanu-PF party had since targeted her where they would attack her and accuse her of being a member of the opposition trying to recruit members to oppose the ruling party.

“Donga loves her SDA church and is a known devout member whose only interest was furthering her Christianity beliefs. She would partake in church outreach programmes in the district, which is how they were then targeted by Zanu-PF members.

“The Zanu-PF supporters would force their group to also distribute their party materials during their outreaches, which she flatly refused, instead arguing that she was not interested in politics. This was unfortunately taken as defiance and hence she was attacked and threatened on numerous occasions,” said Donga’s relative who declined to be named.

At the height of the attacks, Donga is said to have then moved to Bulawayo to stay with her aunt in Cowdray Park suburb but still she was reportedly followed.

“At one point her aunt was visited by some individuals who claimed to be police officers from Lupane and were looking for Donga although they did not state what they were looking for her in regards with what matter.

“It is sad that Donga is enduring all this suffering all because she was steadfast with her beliefs. As is we do not know her whereabouts because after the last encounter at her aunt’s house she just disappeared informing her friends that she genuinely fears for her life,” said the source.
