AN up-and-coming 22-year-old Bulawayo model- cum-manicurist, Catherine Kapakwa, will forever rue the day she took her mobile phone for repairs after a cellphone technician leaked her pornographic video clips and pictures. Kapakwa had taken her cellphone for repairs but the technician managed to retrieve her personal material which he did not hesitate to make public.
The model was early last month pictured as a B-Metro babe.
Kapakwa, popularly known as Cathy Dreamer, operates at a shop situated at Haddon and Sly in Bulawayo, where she is has been AWOL since last Thursday, after the leakage of her video clips and images.
“She hasn’t been to work since you started looking for her. We told her that people from the Press were looking for her and that she should get in touch with the reporters investigating the story but she didn’t; we even told her boyfriend to pass the message but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. As you can see her work station is in the same state you found it when you came by,” said a lady at the shop who preferred anonymity.
One of Kapakwa’s friends, who preferred anonymity, seemingly didn’t sympathise with her, saying her behaviour was unruly and she deserved to have her “wings clipped”.
“She deserved what she got. Who in their normal senses would record and keep such dirty things in their phone? She really is wild and needs some serious counselling. She behaves like a demented delinquent on drugs. Perhaps she may learn to humble herself in future,” the friend said.
Some of the pictures, which Sunday News is in possession of, seem to have been taken at different locations, while the video clips appear to have been taken from home.
Kapakwa appears completely nude in some of the pictures while in other photos she dons only a bra.
In the videos, which are rather disturbing, she is completely naked, “playing” with herself, while in another she recorded herself in the bathroom.
Another source who declined to be named said she was shocked to see the pictures as she always thought of Kapakwa as an angel.
“She is a sweet little girl. You can never think or expect wrong of her. I was shocked to see this pornographic content of her. She may have had such graphic content in her phone but for it to be leaked to the public is just terrible. Maybe the stuff was leaked by a spiteful person,” said the source.
Kapakwa couldn’t be reached for comment, as her phone was unreachable up until the time of going to print.
Kapakwa joins a bandwagon of popular personalities like Tinopona Katsande, Thabiso Phiri, Pokello Nare and Malaika Mushandu that have had their nude videos and pictures exposed.
There have been several public debates over the issue with many people arguing that there is nothing wrong with people taking nude photos or videos of themselves in private.
Others argue that it is inappropriate, as in most cases the videos or photos wind up in the public domain.
For rich American personalities such as Kim Kardashian nudity has worked in their favour, as they have become instant celebrities.
Perhaps because of the different cultural backgrounds, nudity in Zimbabwe has had negative effects on people such as Katsande and Phiri who was forced to resign as Miss Zimbabwe 2014.
In Zimbabwe, the production and possession of pornographic material is illegal, even if it is meant for personal use.
