A new school is set to be constructed in Macingwane village, Mangwe District in Matabeleland South province.

The school will alleviate the plight of hundreds of pupils in the area some who are travelling more than 15 kilometres to Ivimila High.

The school is also set to reduce cases of school drop outs among local children. Addressing villagers at a development meeting at Macingwane Hall last week, Bulilima West Member of Parliament Cde Dingumuzi Phuti implored the community to start mobilising funds.

“The papers for the school are being processed and in the meantime, as the community you have a role to see such a development in your area and it should be in your hands. It’s time we use the growth of technologies to link up as a community and also the diaspora community so that we mobilise funds to build the school. As the community you can avail yourself for labour just like we have successfully done in the ward in the construction of Zimnyama Clinic and a number of other projects,” he said.

Cde Phuti assured the community that Government was working flat out to develop the area, sentiments shared by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu.

“As rural schools you should take advantage of the geography, which means you should acquire land that will be for structures for academic learning and also land to have projects like goat rearing, among others. As Government we are on a quest to establish over 3 000 schools and this can be one of the schools that we can adopt once everything is in place and we work to develop our education sector,” said Dr Ndlovu. – @mthabisi_mthire
