A 23-YEAR-OLD National University of Science and Technology (Nust) student, hit a jackpot yesterday when she won a brand new Isuzu single-cab from the Choppies Big Birthday Grand Draw which was held at Nkulumane Shopping Complex.

Ms Linet Ncube (23) who studying towards an Accounting and Finance Degree had a dream that one day she would own a motor vehicle. She said chances were that if ever that dream would have materialised, she would most probably only be able to afford a pre-owned car, but fate had it that her dream be fulfilled sooner than she ever thought when she walked drove with a brand-new Isuzu single cab.

The jubilant Ms Ncube said she could not believe her luck when she received a phone call from Choppies yesterday when she was at home in Cowdray Park with her husband, Mr Thabulugo Kole.

“When I received the call, I could not believe that I had won a car. So, I just had to come all the way to Nkulumane Complex and see what was happening,” said Ms Ncube.

When asked whether she dreamt of having a car, she said: “Yes, I had planned that one day I would drive. At the moment I am a student at Nust studying Accounting and Finance and in part two. I was looking forward to buying myself a car when l start working.”

Ms Ncube said she entered the draw after buying groceries at Choppies Bellevue worth ZWL$99 000 and she then filled the receipt which she submitted for the draw. She said little did she know she would win a car, or any prize for that matter.

“I thought it was a joke of some sort but everything made sense when we were being presented with the car keys and I realised that this was indeed real and not a gimmick.”

However, Ms Ncube does not have a driver’s license but has her husband has one. The husband Mr Kole reminisced about the momentous moment when they received the call from the grand draw.

“When the call came through, we were relaxed at home. I saw my wife on the phone for quite some time but what made me wonder and be curious was how she seemed to be happy with the conversation. She then informed me that she had won a car, that is when we rushed to come and receive the prize,” said Mr Kole.

The couple which hails from Bulilima District in Matabeleland South Province is off to a good matrimonial journey which had started on a low note with the husband unemployed.

“I do not work at the moment and we were still trying to work on business ideas that could help us sustain a living,” said Mr Kole.

Meanwhile, other lucky individuals walked away with household property that included 15 fridges, 15 television sets and 15 microwaves. Two Isuzu single cabs were up for grabs with the other being won in Harare. The draw was graced by the Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, as well as Choppies senior management. Award winning Bulawayo artiste Msiz kay led various artistes who provided entertainment that included Baba Harare. — @nyeve14
