CHIEFS in Bulilima and Mangwe districts have been encouraged by the growing number of developmental projects that have been going on in their areas since President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over power in November last year.

A number of projects have been completed or are progressing in the area since November.

Some of the projects include the building of a state-of-the-art school, Mokgambo High School in Mangwe, equipping of miners at New Generation Mine, setting up of a radio transmitter in Madlambuzi and the commissioning of the Plumtree-Bulawayo highway fence.

Commenting on the projects, last week, Chief Wasi Ndiweni from Mangwe said traditional leaders were grateful to the Government for ensuring that developmental projects in the area take shape.

“We are very grateful to the Government for the projects which have been rolled out in Plumtree. For instance the highway fence came at the right time as our animals were dying in numbers. It was painful for us. We thank the Government for thinking about its people,” said Chief Ndiweni.

He said most of the programmes that have been rolled out in the area were benefiting the people on the ground.

“People are very happy about the projects as they benefit them. We appeal to the authorities to work with the people so that development is fostered in the villages and communities we live,” he said.

Chief Kandana of Bulilima said people were already seeing some of the benefits of the projects.

“These are the kind of projects we want which benefit the people. We are thankful to the new Government,” said Chief Kandana.

Two months ago Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa commissioned the newly constructed Bango Clinic in Mangwe.

Bulilima Rural District Council working Government and donors has also completed setting up a $60 000 project to provide tap water to Bambadzi villagers last month.

During the Zimbabwe Trade Fair period, the Minister of Environment and Climate, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri commissioned mining equipment sourced for New Generation Mine by Environmental Management Agency (Ema) in Mphoengs and orange trees orchard and a borehole at Bhulu High School in the same area provided by Forestry Commission and Zinwa respectively.

Transmedia has also identified a site to put a radio transmitter in Madlambuzi to improve radio and television coverage in the area. —@richardmuponde
