THE Zimbabwe Republic Police have resumed an operation against plateless, unlicensed and unregistered vehicles in the country, which will see them impounding all vehicles found in the wrong.
The operation comes after an increase in crimes perpetrated by some motorists with unregistered vehicles.
In a statement, acting national police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Blessmore Chishaka said no vehicle would be exempted in the operation, saying the operation was being conducted to account for criminals that were using these vehicles to commit crimes.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police informs that the operation targeting plateless, unregistered and unlicensed vehicles commenced today (yesterday) 15 January 2022 and we continue to urge motorists to abide by the law and comply with the police detectives.
As we carry out this operation, the motoring public is advised that there are no exemptions in as far as this operation is concerned. All plateless, unregistered and unlicensed vehicles will be impounded and cases referred to court for prosecution, including Government vehicles,” said Chief Sup Chishaka.
The acting national police spokesperson said they would not rest in weeding out all criminal elements within the country’s roads.
“The operation is being conducted in order to account for criminals who are committing crimes using these plateless, unregistered and unlicensed motor vehicles.
“We continue to warn all those with criminal intentions that we will be ruthless with them in ensuring that sanity prevails in our roads,” reads the statement.
Vehicles that do not display the standard number plates or Temporary Identification Cards will be impounded and taken through the court processes.
