POLICE in Bulawayo are looking for information that will lead the arrest of a group that is suspected to be part of the Tajamuka movement that is behind a planned demonstration that was supposed to take place in February 2019.

The demonstrations that were meant to be a follow-up to the January 2019 violent protests organized by the oppositions, MDC Alliance, were however thwarted by security officials.

The trio, Thabani Ndlovu, Busani Moyo and Cabangani Sibanda, all from Mpopoma suburb, escaped police custody when they were arrested on Saturday 2 February for being the masterminds behind the planned demonstration.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube said one of their accomplices, Oscar Sibanda was however apprehended and had since been assisting police with investigation, where he had implicated the three.

“As police we got information, that they were a group of youth who were planning a demonstration in the city on 2 February 2019 under the #Tajamuka and #ThisFlag banner. We then arrested four men in the city at the corner of Fife Street and 13th Avenue.

“However, on the way to the police station, three of the arrested managed to escape. The one who failed to escape then identified his accomplices but efforts to rearrest them have been fruitless as they seemingly made good their escape,” said Insp Ncube.

The police spokesperson revealed that they had got information that part of the group if not all had skipped the country to neighbouring South Africa but this information had not been substantiated.

“This group has actually been on our wanted list for some time as they were said to have been part of a number of illegal demonstrations in the city inclusive of the January 2019 violent demonstrations that left a trial of destruction countrywide.

“We call on anyone who might have information that might lead to their arrest to approach the nearest police station,” he said.

The January protests that were organized by the opposition, MDC Alliance saw companies and individuals lose their properties to the marauding demonstrators.

Ordinary businesses became the biggest targets of attacks, resulting in the loss of goods, income, jobs and shops which were vandalized.
