A Mberengwa woman went berserk last Monday and fatally struck her boyfriend with a hammer on the head several times in a dispute over alleged infidelity.
Sibikwaphi Ngwenya (29) of Mahere village under Chief Bankwe in Mberengwa appeared before Mberengwa magistrate Ms Evia Matura facing a charge of murder.
She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 23 November. Ms Matura advised Ngwenya to apply for bail at the High Court.
For the State, Mr Amos Ncube told the court that Ngwenya and her boyfriend Monias Ncube had a misunderstanding at around 10pm on 23 November over alleged infidelity.
Mr Ncube said on the said date and time, the now deceased Monias confronted Ngwenya accusing her of being unfaithful to him.
The court heard that a heated argument ensued between the two resulting in Ngwenya taking a hammer and striking Monias three times on the head and he fell unconscious while bleeding profusely.
Mr Ncube said Monias later died as a result of the injuries sustained due to the assault.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Ngwenya’s arrest.
Meanwhile, Mberengwa North legislator Cde Tafanana Zhou has expressed concern over the increasing number of murder cases in Mberengwa.
Cde Zhou said this year close to 10 cases had been reported and most of them are related to mining activities and infidelity.
“We are seriously concerned with the increasing number of murder cases in Mberengwa. Mberengwa is a mining district and these could be triggering criminal activities. People are no longer safe especially at Mberengwa turn-off. Two weeks ago a man was found dead a few metres from the shopping centre and the culprits are still at large,” he said.
Cde Zhou said there was a need for the police to step in and beef up security in the district.
