ZESA Holdings has said customers should brace for increased load-shedding due to a technical fault that was experienced at Hwange Themal Power Station last week.
In a statement yesterday, Zesa spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira said a transformer had broken down at Hwange resulting in loss of power generation.

“We lost generation at Hwange Power Station due to a malfunctioning station transformer,” he said.
“Restoration of the (power) units is currently underway in phases, that is, one unit at a time because of the specification of thermal power stations… We are thus not adhering to the load shedding schedule at the moment.

“In the interest of load shedding, consumers may not have power for longer periods than in the stipulated schedule.”
Mr Gwasira also said a power blackout that was experienced in parts of Harare Central Business District yesterday afternoon was due to a fault at Coleford substation.

Since Zesa increased load shedding some households are going for up to 16 hours without power daily.
