THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Matabeleland chapter will on Friday present awards to best performing formally registered businesses and individuals in the region.
Running under the theme: “Bolstering Resilience and Innovativeness for Sustainable Growth,” ZNCC Matabeleland Chapter chairman Mr Mackenzie Dongo said the event aims to recognise businesses that have withstood the unfavourable operating environment.
“The Matabeleland Annual Business Awards (MABAs) is a very important and prestigious event where as ZNCC, we come together to recognise outstanding and up-and-coming formally registered businesses that have withstood the current harsh operating environment to perform well and stand as economic pillars thereby contributing positively to our national economic growth,” said Mr Dongo.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of companies have been forced to close shop owing to the harsh operating environment characterised by rising inflation and runaway prices of goods and services.
He said the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about many challenges to most institutions and a new way of doing business for some and most of them currently sought to re-orient for the new normal that will assist them to find sound footing on local and global markets.

Mr Dongo said inflation and local currency instability remains a challenge for most institutions to operate smoothly. Among the prestigious accolades for the event include Businessman and Businesswoman of the Year awards, Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and Innovation award.
There will also be the Manager of the Year award, Exporter of the Year award, Tertiary Institution award and Sustainable Development Goal.
Added on to that will be Best Emerging Business of the Year, Rural Businessesperson of the Year, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) of the Year and Public Enterprise of the Year awards.
“Our adjudication committee has managed year in year out to short list credible, well deserving accolade recipients. The event is far more important in the business domain as it improves product and service delivery amongst industry players. We would like to appreciate the continued support that ZNNC has received from corporates in Matabeleland,” added Mr Dongo.
