A 26-YEAR-OLD woman told a court that her husband was now denying her conjugal rights as he was now having an affair with their 55-year-old neighbour. Sisasenkosi Sola of Dombodema area in Bulilima District said her 28-year-old husband told her that he preferred the older woman, Maria Ndlovu, over her.

Sola appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa facing assault charges.
She followed Ndlovu armed with an axe and hit the complainant once on the head with the back side of the weapon. Sola was sentenced to nine months in prison of which three months were suspended for five years on condition that she does not within the period commit an offence of the same nature.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that she performs 210 hours of community service at Mathambo Primary School.
Sola told the court that she assaulted the older woman in order to keep her away from her husband.

“This woman has caused a lot of problems in my marriage your worship. My husband is having an affair with her and he is now refusing to come to his home. He no longer treats me like his wife and each time I question him he tells me that this woman who is old enough to be his mother is better than me in bed.

“I had no intention to beat her up I just wanted to scare her away so that she would leave my husband. However, when I confronted her she turned out to be rude and that was when I struck her,” said Sola.

She said the complainant had equally wronged her.
Sola also begged to be spared a jail sentence as she told the court that her absence would give her husband an opportunity to replace her with the complainant.

Prosecuting, Mr Clemence Shawarira said the complainant left her homestead in Village 28, Dombodema area, on 6 February to weed her fields.
He said Sola spotted the complainant as she left around 7am and followed her while carrying an axe.

Mr Shawarira said when the complainant got to her fields Sola confronted her about the relationship she was having with her husband.
He said the complainant fled from Sola and sought refuge at a nearby homestead where she got help as she was bleeding.

The matter was reported to the police resulting in Sola’s immediate arrest.
