IN a bid to force his ex-wife to return home, a Kezi man assaulted her and cut all her clothes into pieces.
Ignitius Dube of Sasani village in Sun-Yet-Sen appeared before magistrate Mr Jimmy Ntonga for assaulting his ex-wife Selisiwe Ncube of Halahupa village in Sun-Yet-Sen and destroying her property.
It is reported that the two were living together in South Africa as husband and wife and the complainant returned to Zimbabwe late last year as Dube was physically abusing her.
The court heard that in March this year the accused also returned home and would on occasions visit the complainant and assault her until she returned to her father’s home.
On 6 April at around 10pm the accused assaulted the complainant by biting her once on the back and on the right shoulder and threatened to kill her if she ever reported the matter to the police.
The prosecutor, Mr Shamiso Ncube, said on 18 April Dube called the complainant on her mobile phone and told her that he would destroy all her property.
Out of fear the complainant slept in her father’s bedroom and during the night Dube came in and cut various clothing including skirts, tops, shoes, jackets and a bra and fled the scene.
On the morning of 19 April the complainant went into her room and discovered that all her clothing had been destroyed.
She reported the matter to the police leading to Dube’s arrest.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and noted that he was angered by his ex-wife’s refusal to get back with him.
On the count of domestic violence he was cautioned and discharged.
He was, however, sentenced to two months imprisonment for malicious damage to property which were suspended on condition that he pays for the damaged clothing valued at R1 500.
If he fails to pay the money he will spend two months in prison.
