TREGER Plastics, a division of the Treger group of companies, has acquired new machinery at an undisclosed amount from China and Italy to boost production of poly pipes and plastics in the country, an official has said
A sales representative from the company, Mr Abbie Mthembo, told Sunday Business last week during the Mine Entra exhibition in Bulawayo that the machinery included an Extruder, a pipe-making and chopping and printing machine.

He said some of the machines had been installed and were already working while some would be installed soon.
“Our eight-colour printer has been functional for close to a month now.  As we speak, there are people operating it at the firm,” said Mr Mthembo.
In a separate interview, another senior official at the company who declined to be named said the machinery was likely to see the company employing more people to cater for increased production.

“The machines, which specialise in the manufacture of bread bags, carrier bags, grain bags and many other plastic products are likely to benefit most of the packaging industry,” said the official.

This development comes at a time when the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Mike Bimha, stressed the need for companies to ensure there was increased reliance on local products to boost industry.
