VICE-PRESIDENTS Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko yesterday toured the venue for the 15th Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference at Elephant Hills Resort Golf Course in Victoria Falls and came out highly impressed by the progress made so far. The VPs visited the venue on the invitation of the party’s Secretary for Administration, Cde Ignatius Chombo, who is the conference’s co-ordinator, so as to assess and be appraised of the progress made so far.

The conference kicks off tomorrow and ends on Sunday. The Politburo, will however, sit in Harare tomorrow.
VP Mnangagwa, who was Acting President, and VP Mphoko were earlier briefed on the progress in a closed door meeting at the hotel where respective committees charged with organising the conference gave their reports.

After the meeting, the two VPs were led to the venue for a tour where they would occasionally hand-in-hand crack some jokes. Briefing journalists after the tour, VP Mnangagwa said he was impressed by the progress.

“The chairman of the co-ordinating committee, Cde Chombo, invited me and my colleague (VP Mphoko) to come and see progress made by sub-committees in preparation for the conference,” he said.

“We are highly impressed by the degree of progress in all sectors. We are satisfied that everything possible has been done and we are bracing for a very successful conference.”
VP Mnangagwa commended the work that has been done at the tent village which he described as beautiful.
The theme for the conference is: “Consolidating People’s power through Zim Asset.”

VP Mnangagwa said the conference will seek to achieve two major issues — looking at resolutions of the 2014 Congress and examining progress made in the implementation of ZimAsset.

The two Vice-Presidents were accompanied by Politburo members Cdes Chombo, Simon Khaya Moyo, Cain Mathema, Kembo Mohadi, Jacob Mudenda, Sithokozile Mathuthu, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Obert Mpofu, heads of Government departments and party members from Matabeleland North Province.

The tents and other facilities such as offices, a clinic and media centre have also been completed with workmen only making final touches.
In terms of the conference programme, after the Politburo meeting tomorrow, the Central Committee will also meet in Harare on Wednesday to deliberate on issues to do with the conference. Delegates will travel to Victoria Falls on Thursday with the conference going into full swing on Friday.
