ZANU-PF National Chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri will tomorrow lead a team of senior party officials to Esigodini to assess the state of preparedness ahead of the party’s National People’s Conference to be held next month.

In an interview yesterday, party spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo said Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri will meet and get an update from all the sub-committees working on the preparations.

“We have a meeting on Monday in Esigodini where we will meet the co-ordinating committee and we will receive reports from the various sub-committees that were put in place. These will give clearer updates on progress so far. We are also going to be graced by the party chair, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri who will be leading a team to Esigodini to get the reports from the various committees,” he said.

Cde Khaya-Moyo said the meeting will determine how far the party has gone in making preparations for the event but said all was falling into place. Zanu-PF Matabeleland South chair Cde Rabelani Choeni said the province was happy with the preparations.

“We are on the ground doing our different tasks and we are confident we will meet our targets looking at where we are in terms of preparations so far,” he said.

Cde Choeni said issues of accommodation and transport were being finalised but assured all delegates that they would get accommodation for the duration of the conference. He said the province had targeted 168 beasts to feed the delegates and so far 68 have been secured.

“Our target is 168 beasts that are needed for the event and currently we have 68 so I am positive by the time the conference begins we would have secured the remaining 100,” he said.

He said the various sub-committees were working flat out to ensure the conference is a success. Cde Choeni also noted that roads were being spruced up so that delegates have easy access to the venue. He said provisionally between 6 000 and 7 000 delegates were expected at the conference. The 17th National People’s Conference would be held at Mzingwane High School from 11 to 16 December.

The party has been making frantic efforts to ensure that all is ready for the event. Provinces have started mobilising resources and putting in place logistics to ensure that delegates attend the conference smoothly. The party has called upon all the provinces to accredit their members early to avoid last minute rushes.
