THE ruling Zanu-PF party in Matabeleland North province will soon expel rogue elements that have started fanning factionalism within the party.
Cracks are allegedly forming in the province fanned by party members who lost primary elections when the party was selecting candidates to represent the party in the 30 July harmonised elections.
Addressing a Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting after a Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting in Lupane yesterday, provincial party chairman Cde Richard Moyo said the party will discipline those fanning divisions.
“We know them, they are among us and we will not hesitate to expel them from the party. We do not want factionalism in Matabeleland North. We are not a province of factions, we want to work as a united people,” he said.
Added Cde Moyo: “We cannot have our own members going behind the party’s back pushing other agendas unknown to the province. I understand people are having private meetings parallel to our own meetings. That must stop.”
Cde Moyo said there were party members who feel they have grown bigger than the party and such people must be disciplined.
The party leadership also castigated provincial war veterans chairman Cde Sonny Mnguni who signed a petition by other war veterans from other provinces threatening to remove senior party leaders from their positions.
“As a province we do not recognise the petition and his signature. That was his own making which the province is not aware of. The chairman never told us about it, that was his own decision and he needs to explain himself to the party why he is part of petitions that we are not aware of. We cannot be pushed by people with their own agendas,” said Cde Moyo.
Turning to the party’s Annual National People’s Conference which will be held in Esigodini in Matabeleland South next month, Cde Moyo said only those selected will attend the conference.
