STANDOUT Arenel Movers’ Aaron Ngwenya, who conceded just three goals in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League last season, seems to be continuing from where he left as he is the only goalkeeper in the Castle Lager Premiership that has kept a clean sheet.

Ngwenya was voted Southern Region Goalkeeper and Player of the Year for the 2023 season in which he was the main reason the team was promoted. He showed great goalkeeping skills with a number of great saves and command of his area.

Only the previous season he was released by Bulawayo City, but went on to prove what an asset he was at Arenel.

Arenel held much experienced Premiership side, Herentals to a 0-0 draw which is their third on the trot in the Premiership.

Division One history aside, Ngwenya looks the deal and only time will tell whether he is cut for it or it’s been some fluke performances.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) Week Three fixtures that were played last Thursday and on Good Friday produced a paltry eight goals to take the 2024 season’s tally to a total of 43.

In the first two weeks of the league season a total of 35 goals were scored with Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe getting the first red card of the season.

The Match Day Three fixtures saw Highlanders, Bikita Minerals and Bulawayo Chiefs being the only clubs that managed to post victories after getting the better of Simba Bhora, Hwange and Caps United respectively.
Bosso edged Simba Bhora 1-0.

Bulawayo Chiefs beat Chipangano 2-0 and Bikita Minerals edged Makepekepe 1-0.

It was a fixtures schedule that had five draws and two home defeats.

Four goalless stalemates (Arenel 0-0 Herentals, ZPC Kariba 0-0 Ngezi Platinum, Manica Diamonds 0-0 Chegutu Pirates, Yadah Stars 0-0 Dynamos) were played.

The only draw match that produced goals was the four-goal thriller between FC Platinum and Chicken Inn.

Their clash was played at Zvishavane’s Mandava Stadium last Thursday.

One home win was registered by Highlanders as they downed highly fancied Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium.
Melikhaya Ncube scored the decider.

Bulawayo Chiefs had a fruitful trip away from home when they managed to gun down Hwange 0-2 deep in the bowels of Colliery Stadium.

Four away five goals were scored by Chicken Inn, Bikita Minerals and Amakhosi Amahle.

Three home goals were produced by Bosso and FC Platinum.

Eleven clubs, Simba Bhora, Hwange, Yadah , Dynamos, Caps United , ZPC Kariba, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Manica Diamonds, Chegutu Pirates, Arenel Movers and Herentals failed to score.

Arenel Movers, who are under the mentorship of ex-Chicken Inn, Tsholotsho FC and Bulawayo City coach Farai Tawachera, are the only club yet to concede.

Interestingly, Arenel Movers, who are fondly known as the Sweet Boys, are also the only club yet to score.

“I believe this has been a great start for us. We are new and we have been managing to match some of the big clubs.

“We will need to continue working harder,” said Tawachera. – @FungaiMuderere.
