SONGBIRD Berita Khumalo is now officially off the market, after she revealed that her boyfriend has paid lobola while a white wedding has been pushed back due to Covid-19 fears.
The songbird took to social media last week to reveal that she had indeed got hitched during a lobola ceremony that was held virtually in part. While not unmasking fully the identity of her man, she revealed that his surname is Baloyi.
“I enjoy our privacy but this is God’s blessing, I share from a place of pure bliss, love, joy and gratitude. The coming together of two families is a beautiful sacred occasion in African culture. This past weekend the Khumalo and the Baloyi families came together (with a little help from technology due to Covid-19),” she said.
The Thandolwethu singer also revealed that a wedding and celebrations would follow after the end of Covid-19-necessitated restrictions.
“The Khumalos are excited, bazifumene inkomo zabo. The Baloyis are excited bamfumene umakoti wabo. Family is everything! I am the luckiest girl in the world united for life with the love of my life.
“And on that note please drop me a song for my wedding playlist I am collecting, we’ve got to celebrate all our blessings in a big way once the Covid pandemic is behind us,” she said.
For over a year, Khumalo has kept the identity of her man under wraps, only revealing that he had been the reason behind her happiness recently.
“I am being taken care of (by my boyfriend) and he is very good for me, and creates an environment for me to work well. Although I am not mentioning any names, he makes me very happy,” she said in an interview.
“I wanted to find myself in a relationship where I am loved and supported. I am in love with the person I am with and also the woman that I have become.”
A source that spoke to South African publication, The Sowetan also revealed that Berita was smitten with a man who, though not known in showbiz circles, was complementing her drive and ambition.
“She is with someone who she loves, and who understands where she currently is in her life,” said a source the publication claimed was close to the Zimbabwe-born musician.
“He is not someone who is extensively in the music industry, but has had her back throughout her journey.”
Before her current man, the singer had seemed to be unlucky in love, revealing that she had been in a relationship that left her heartbroken and withdrawn in 2017.
“I remember end of last year I had to report here on Twitter that I was taking a hiatus because I was going through a lot! My heart and soul were broken. It was a really trying time and it broke my heart to have to pull away from you all. But it was needed,” she revealed.
After the announcement of her lobola, Berita received messages of congratulations from a number of A-list celebrities including Minnie Dlamini, DJ Zinhle, Nomuzi Mabena and Bucie Nkomo.
