HIGHLANDERS executive members, vice chairman Modern Ngwenya as well secretary general Israel Moyo have effectively been expelled from the Bosso leadership structures after they were each suspended from holding leadership positions at the club for a year.

In sentences handed down by the Matthew Sibindi disciplinary committee that heard the duo’s case, Ngwenya and Moyo cannot occupy any leadership positions at Highlanders for one year. They were initially meant to sit out for two years but will only serve one year of the punishment on condition that they are not found guilty of any transgression in two years. The Matthew Sibindi led disciplinary committee, which found the duo guilty on the charges they were facing handed down the sentence on 1 July. Ngwenya and Moyo have up to 8 July to appeal the sentence.

Israel Moyo

“Modern Ngwenya is hereby suspended from holding any official position within the Club structures for a period of two years from the date of this determination. However, he remains a member of the Club and is free to attend all Club functions and activities. One year out of the two years of suspension from Club structures is suspended and will be brought to bear if the defendant commits any misconduct within two years. In the event you wish to appeal, you can appeal to the Highlanders Football Club Board of Trustees by 17:00hrs on Monday 8 July 2019, whose decision shall be final in terms of the internal Club disciplinary process,’’ read the sentence.

The same sentence and conditions for Ngwenya apply to Moyo’s case.

Ngwenya and Moyo, who have been on suspension since the beginning of May were found guilty of insubordination and conduct inconsistent with performance of duties as executive members. The charges emanated from the decision by the executive not to renew the contract of chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube which expired on 30 April. Ngwenya and Moyo voted against a suggestion to escalate the issue to a joint sitting of the executive and the board, a recommendation that had been made by the club’s human resources committee.

For Ngwenya, he was serving his second and last term as vice chairman having been re-elected at the beginning of this year while Moyo was elected as SG at the start of 2018.
