COMEDIAN Q Dube feels the writing is on the wall with regards to having a one-man show given the award he recently won and doors that have opened due to his increasing popularity in the country and beyond.

Last month Q Dube (real name Nqobizitha Siziba-Dube) won the Outstanding Comedian award at the National Art Merit Awards and in the same month, landed a job at ZBC’s Power FM on the Breakfast Show with Butterphly.

The comedian who was in Bulawayo last weekend to celebrate Umahlekisa Comedy Club’s 4th Anniversary said the one-man show billed #Fillup7Arts in Harare, felt like the right thing to do.

“I was motivated by the challenge because I have been itching for a new task as far as my career was concerned. The idea came about last year and I gathered enough courage to pursue the dream,” said Q Dube.

“Cassper Nyovest also got me thinking of doing my own Fill up something after he filled up the Dome two years ago.”

He said the road to organising a one-man show had been hard as it has been marred by many challenges.

“I’m planning on doing the show at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare in August. The challenge I’m facing is getting sponsorship and money to pay service providers. It’s a difficult task but it’s not impossible to do,” said Q Dube.

But if all goes well, he wants to have a set that will be more than one hour with three or four supporting acts.

“I’ll have local supporting acts just to warm up the crowd, but ultimately, the night is focusing on the main event. My set will be one hour and fifteen minutes and my wish list in terms of supporting acts will definitely have Michael K and Long John.

Everyone else is a surprise.”

Last year Q Dube had the opportunity to open for Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime and South Africa’s John Vlismas among many other shows.
