HORSE racing analyst, Sheldene Chant is tipping trainer Gokhan Terzi to be crowned Champion Trainer for the 2020-21 season.
Throughout the season Terzi has shown a very good hand when it comes to conditioning a horse for a competition, winning trophies in the process.
Speaking to this publication recently Sheldene said even though the winner is yet to be selected he has done enough to wear the crown.
“Officially no one has been declared Champion Trainer yet although it will go to the Gokhan Terzi yard,” said Sheldene.
When asked what she has to say about the performance of horses under this trainer season and the fact that winner of the OK Grand Challenge among other major races on the calendar all came from his yard, she said looking at his experience as well as previous achievements it is not surprising.
“Terzi was Champion Trainer here before he moved to Johannesburg, then he opened a satellite yard here run by Vanessa Birketoft.
“Now Gokhan Terzi is back training here and it’s not surprising he is doing well and he is back stamping ground,” she added.
Another trainer who has done well locally for a long time is Bridget Stidolph who took over from Lisa Harris.
When the man of the moment Terzi left for South Africa some years back as the champion trainer back then Bridget was the one hitting high notes in most race meetings till the return of Terzi.
However, looking at the way his runners have been collecting silverware only a miracle can stop him.
He is currently the leading trainer after saddling the highest number of winners plus placed runners at Borrowdale.
Meanwhile, there will be no action at Borrowdale this Sunday after Mashonaland Turf Club failed to get the clearance in time to go ahead with preparations.
The last race meeting of the season scheduled for 31 July is also hanging in balance following an announcement by Mash Turf Club the way forward will be known in due course.
