A screenshot of a document on the lifting of restrictions on sporting activity, which the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has dismissed as not originating from its offices had the Zimbabwean sports sector excited yesterday.

The document, which was circulating on social media said the President, using the “Emergency Powers” had given permission to sports and recreation activities to take place where there are 50 participants at any given time and same number of officials. Even FC Platinum coach, Pieter de Jongh, seemingly basing on that document posted on Twitter that his team is starting training.

“Happy with great news that we allowed to start training with the team. Let’s we focus direct and hard work for success. Nice weekend everyone,’’ posted De Jongh.

SRC director-general, Prince Mupazviriho said the document is actually originating from Botswana.

“That’s not our document, it’s a Botswana document, we don’t have such an act. Nothing has changed from previously communicated positions, if there is anything, we will communicate accordingly,’’ said Mupazviriho.

For now, only low risk sports codes are allowed to take place under strict guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19. Some sports were cleared to train and have competitions as well as game situations while sports codes like cricket, the players are only allowed to fine tune.

“Administratively we are ready, we have put in all the necessary measures for us to resume training,’’ Chizondo said.
FC Platinum are scheduled for take part in the 2020/21 Caf Champions League, with the preliminary round fixtures scheduled to take place from 20 to 29 November.
