We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope. That is the advice David Dexter Ngwenya gives to people.

It was at the age of 12, when the twins sang gospel songs to soothe the pain and anger of living inside car scraps as street kids as a result of being denied by their mother in South Africa when they searched for her upon hearing that she dumped them after their birth at Mpilo hospital.

The 30-year-old David related to Sunday Life the story of their life as well as how they became musicians.

“We stayed with our grandfather from birth, after his death we had no one to take care of us and we were homeless hence we decided to go to South Africa since our grandfather always told us who our mother is and where she stays hence locating her was not hard although when we got there she wanted nothing to do with us.

“After staying in the South African streets for about eight years we met prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlightened Christian Gathering who took us to his church and helped us with shelter and money to pursue our singing career.

“As time went on we decided to come back to our home country Zimbabwe and that was when we worked on our first album titled Praise his name in 1999, which is a fusion of gospel and RnB. The album has eight tracks. In all our songs we thank God for his guidance, mercy and his grace upon us,” he said.

He also shared with this publication what they have achieved.

“So far we have three albums namely Praise His name, Ngibambe ngesandla released in 2010 with 10 tracks and Extend my borders with eight tracks. My brother is no longer doing music so I am now working on the fourth album. I recently released a single called Detonation of Worship which will be part of the album titled Second Chance.

“We have worked with popular musicians who have been my greatest inspiration, artistes like Sipho Ngwenya, Thina Zungu, Dumi Mkokstad, Joyous celebration, Kirk Franklin, Hillsong and Sipho Makhabane. My greatest inspiration was the late Sifiso Ncwane. I loved the way he humbled himself when it came to doing God’s work and he was also a great worshipper,” he added.
