HE is young but has big dreams and given the opportunity he would be flying high representing the country internationally.

Since 2011 when he began cycling, excelling is all he does despite a few hindrances that have stopped him from progressing to higher levels.

Young and energetic cyclist Nkulumo Dube (pictured)who is the National Mountain Biking champion said cycling has always been his number one love since he was young. He said when he began professional cycling he had bigger dreams but due to lack of funding he is failing to participate in regional competitions.

“Last year I failed to go to the World championships because I could not secure funding for my trip. I also missed out on the Lesotho Afcon this year but that does not bring me down because the God I believe in will open doors for me in the near future,” he said.

The young cyclist is recovering from a knee operation which was done last week Wednesday. He said he won’t be on the bike for some time till his knee heels and gets back to shape.

“I crashed sometime back in Botswana during a race. The doctors surgically removed a stone in my right knee which means I had been cycling for five months with a stone in my knee,” he said.

He recently took part in Tour De Great Dyke and was the fastest of them all despite having a stone in his knee. Nku, as he is affectionately known said the tour was the best for him in his cycling history.

“I have participated in many cycling tours but this was the best for me. The welcome that I got from Zvishavane was just fabulous and everything else during the tour was on point especially the water points,” he said.

Nku called on the corporate world to invest in the sport so that it can grow big like what is happening in other countries. He said with the adequate funding and support from the people the sport will get popular just like football.

“We do not get much coverage from the media and that is the reason people are not investing in this sport. I hope as time goes on people will realise how exciting cycling is and give us the much needed support.

“If you train hard you fight easy nomatter how big your opponent is. There is no luck in cycling to those who do not train, it all goes well to all those who train hard and trust God. If God permits I will go very far,” he said
