CONVICTED Bulawayo heinous killer, Rodney Tongai Jindu, practised shooting at an unknown location before committing the two murders, where he admitted to eating his victims’ raw livers and cooking the brains before consuming them, it has emerged.

Jindu of Glengary suburb in the city was arrested in 2017 in connection with the deaths of Mboneli Joko Ncube and Cyprian Kudzurunga. He was eventually sentenced to death for the callous murder of two of his friends last year.

In the video seen by Sunday News, Jindu is seen holding a shotgun and shooting at pumpkins while an unknown person records him using a cellphone.

“Yes, it’s recording, face it to me first, not my face. Basically we will be loading a 12 gauge shell into this Hatsan optima back barrel shotgun. Now, you want to point it (the cellphone) to the pumpkins where shots will be coming in,” Jindu is heard saying.

The one shooting the video, however, fails to heed to Jindu’s plea not to show his face as they direct the camera straight at the convicted serial killer who is wearing a checkered boxer, blue vest and a grey cap.

He is then heard cocking the gun and firing towards the two pumpkins on top of a bucket.

“Wow, you feel that,” says Jindu, with apparent satisfaction, after making the shots.

Jindu is alleged to have shot his victims with a shotgun at point blank range. The source of the video claimed that this is the similar shotgun that was used to commit the two heinous crimes. Jindu shot dead Kudzurunga of Queens Park East, buried him in a shallow grave in Burnside suburb and sent a message to the deceased’s mother pretending to be her son who had suddenly decided to leave the country.

He also shot Ncube and dismembered his body and set the parts on fire before burying them in four shallow graves in Burnside. During trial, Jindu told the court that he was sent by the devil to kill two of his victims and threatened to unleash the evil spirit on prosecutors.

He said when he committed the two murders, he was under the influence of heroin and methamphetamine (crystal meth) which created an urge for him to kill. Jindu also confessed that he ate the pair’s raw livers and cooked the brains before consuming them.

In finding Jindu guilty and sentencing him to face the death penalty, Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo ignored Jindu’s “unreasonable plea”. Justice Moyo said capital punishment was the most appropriate sentence.
