THE price of bread has gone up to $3, 50 from S$2,30, barely a week after the price was adjusted from $1.40
A survey by Sunday News on Monday showed that most retail shops were now selling bread at the new price, triggering disgruntlement among consumers who feel it is time Government intervenes to deal with greediness that has gripped the local business community.
Although National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe president Mr Ngoni Mazango was not immediately available to comment, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe spokesman Mr Garikai Chaunza said the increase of bread prices has been necessitated by the recent 50 percent hikes in flour prices.
“GMAZ has noted the recent increase in bread prices. Bakers flour which was $45 is now selling at $83 for a 50 kilogramme forcing bakeries to increase the price of bread,” he said.
