MATABELELAND Hockey Board (MHB) have partnered with Barons Motor Spares to help them meet some of their operational costs.

According the Jerry Sullivan the MHB media officer, this partnership will see Barons Motor Spares assist the hockey board to meet some of the operating costs associated with the running of the Bulawayo Hockey Developmental League which is expected to start in due course.

An elated Sullivan said the league which was set to start this week has since been moved to a later date to facilitate the tying up of all loose ends to pave way for a smooth flow.

As part of the sponsorship package, Barons will also assist the league to pay for use of the stadium, pay for coaches to go through development programmes as well as keep them motivated among other obligations.

As part of their target they intend to recruit as many players as possible based on the response they have received so far whenever a training seminar is being conducted.

According to Sullivan, the aim of the league is to expose kids at a tender age to modern ways of the game.

As part of efforts to lift the game in this part of the country MHB have been aggressive, conducting a number of training sessions, carrying out selection tournaments to identify regional teams for both girls plus boys among other activities to develop the sport in Bulawayo.

This has seen the board working hand in glove with a number of schools in the process.
