POLICE have appealed for assistance to locate relatives of a man who was stabbed to death a month ago as his body is stuck at Mpilo Central Hospital mortuary in Bulawayo.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the man suspected to be in his 20s was found in possession of a stolen National Identity Card belonging to Mr Passmore Ncube. He said efforts to ascertain his identity were fruitless.
“We are appealing to the public to help us identify a man who was stabbed to death on 21 June in a fight over a woman. His body is housed at Mpilo Hospital Mortuary. He was working at Matshetsheni area in Gwanda as a domestic worker and when we made a follow-up we learnt that no one from the area knew his place of origin. The now deceased was using an ID which belonged to Passmore Ncube but it belonged to someone in South Africa who had reported it missing. We took his fingerprints to try and identify him but he isn’t registered,” said Insp Ndebele.
He said police had also learnt that the now deceased once worked in South Africa. Insp Ndebele said people with information that could assist must visit any police station near them or contact the investigating officer Assistant Inspector Chiwoto on 0739030072.
He appealed to members of the public to ensure they verify the particulars of their prospective workers before engaging their services. The now deceased was stabbed to death with a knife by Obadiah Dube in a brawl over a sex worker. Dube is on remand at Gwanda Prison.
