NGEZI Platinum Stars shot to the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after they routed Herentals College 3-0 at Baobab Stadium yesterday.

It was the only PSL fixture to go ahead, with eight others postponed due to positive Covid-19 cases recorded when teams conducted tests ahead of match day three fixtures.

Ngezi Platinum, yet to taste defeat so far this season now have seven points, from two wins and a draw.

With FC Platinum and Manica Diamonds, the other unbeaten teams not in action this weekend, Ngezi Platinum will enjoy being on top of the log.

Nyasha Chintuli, scorer of the league’s first hat-trick of the season against Bulawayo City opened the scoring for Ngezi Platinum with five minutes played to score his fourth goal of the season.

Bruno Mtigo and Anelka Chivandire completed the rout in the second half.
Rodwell Dhlakama’s men have now found the target eight times while their defence is yet to be breached in three matches.

They started off with a 5-0 drubbing of Bulawayo City in their opening match of the season before they secured a 0-0 draw away to Highlanders at Barbourfields.

Covid-19 caused the postponement of eight match day three fixtures. On Wednesday, the PSL announced that five matches had been called off, one of those being Highlanders’ trip to Mutare for a date with Manica Diamonds.

On Friday, the PSL sent out further communication that two more fixtures had been called off.

There was confusion because the match between Chicken Inn and Tenax that was meant to take place at Luveve Stadium yesterday was not part of the matches that were communicated to the media as having been postponed but clubs had been informed on Thursday.

In announcing the postponement of the matches, the PSL said it will make an announcement on when the affected fixtures are taking place.  —  @Mdawini_29
