A notorious carjacker who has been on the run, until he was nabbed by police last Sunday, will soon appear in court for other crimes he committed since 2015.

Dominic Tachiona Tichawangana (37), who is facing three counts of robbery (carjacking), one count of armed robbery and a count of escaping from lawful custody, was re-arrested on Sunday. He will soon be appearing at Western Commonage magistrates’ courts facing 31 counts of unlawful entry and theft.

Tichawangana had been on the police wanted list for the crimes he committed two years back. His docket revealed that Tichawangana in the company of his accomplices raided Magama Complex, Opposite Nkulumane Zimpost at Sekusile Business Centre in Bulawayo. They allegedly jumped over the complex durawall, seized a security guard whom they threatened by putting a knife on his neck.

They then hit the security guard with a stone on the leg, and went on to tie him with a rope before getting away with his $13 and complex keys.

The four men stole property worth more than $10 000 and an estimated $4 000 was recovered. They looted 16 shops, where they stole a variety of electrical gadgets ranging from cellphones, laptops, batteries, torches, chargers. They also stole weaves and clothes.

His accomplice, Farai Nhiwatiwa (30), was convicted on his own plea to three counts of carjacking, one count of armed robbery and a count of escaping from lawful custody by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Joseph Mabeza. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.  — @lvydvy1
