From humble beginnings Dumisani Magalene warmly known Dj Yugoe, driven by passion persevered until he created a name for himself.

The 29-year-old Plumtree-based Dj started his career in 2008 where he could only play at school events, with Nqobizitha Dube known as DJ Cooldread, because of little experience.

“As someone who grew up in a family of footballers, music was not my thing but everything changed when I met Dj Cooldread who I tagged along with when he had gigs at high school and Albert aka Bhabha who introduced me to listening sessions of house music and laid a foundation by giving me a few lessons on how to play around with the equipment.

I then paved my way up to where I am today because I had fallen in love with being a Dj and was determined I could be good at it,” said DJ Yugoe.

Pushed by passion and determination he managed to spread his wings even wider enabling him to play and travel to countries like Dubai, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa.

“Getting into the industry was never easy considering that I am from a small town, meeting well-known and more experienced people of which some did not really take me seriously.

Back stabbing has always been there but I pulled through.

The biggest challenge and the major one is the non-payment at events especially here in our country, the journey has not been easy at all.

The industry has a lot of ups and downs.

“On the positive side, all has been moving on the right lane from the day I signed under Toundtainment Events Company, which is an events company in Plumtree established by my manager Handsome Sibanda, it opened doors and paved way for a lot of opportunities.

I’m so lucky to have a manager like him because he is the one who helped me get to where I am today as he managed to get me bookings outside the country putting me on the map even outside the country.

“I’ve helped shape the entertainment industry in Plumtree and helped to put Plumtree on the entertainment map.

I’ve also done events to fundraise for our hospital, the underprivileged, and most recently for a local netball team.

I’ve opened up the industry for young up-and-coming artistes and connected them to different countries so that they can broaden their skills.

My future plans are representing Zimbabwe on a bigger stage one day, playing in places like Ibiza and Tomorrowland,” he said.
