IN a sector that one can say its oversubscribed with male figures, 20-year-old Tafadzwa “Swazy” Mawere took a stance to be one of the few hip-hop practitioners.

Just like any other upcoming artiste, Swazy has been discouraged a number of times by the public, with some opining that she will never make it in music. However, because of her belief that her love for music will never be disturbed by anyone or anything, Swazy is still going. This, coupled with her desire to become the best female rapper in Bulawayo, has kept her fire burning.

The multi-talented artiste, producer, rapper, and songwriter professionally started doing music a year ago. It is during her school days that her passion for music started brewing. At the time, she was part of the music group, and acappella group, while played marimba as well.

In an interview with Sunday Life, Swazy said, “Music has definitely been a passion of mine from the tender age of nine years. I have always wanted to be a DJ even though during that time I did not understand what being a DJ really meant. I was just driven by my passion for music production.

What distinguishes me from other artistes is mainly expression. I believe my style of rap and or trap is quite alternative. My inspiration is the one and only original Koffee. She does new school reggae and whatnot but there is something about her that just inspires me. I honestly cannot put my finger on it” she added.

The sound engineering fanatic has worked with hip-hop moguls in Bulawayo like Indigo Saint, Luminous, Brintz, Farai, and Lynn Rozzay. She recently released her first-ever music video of her single, which she wrote, produced, and engineered herself, with visuals captured by Visuals by Corey.

Swazy said, “In high school, I fell in love with science, physics to be more specific, but my love for music overshadowed it.

Hence the reason why I am pursuing sound engineering the child of music and physics. I recently dropped an emotional track which was done by me titled Numb my pain. It is a collage of every heart-breaking moment I have gone through.

Each bar has its own story to tell. The song is so special to me that I decided to make it have a music video. I am blessed to have worked with Visuals by Corey,” she said.
