MUTARE based TENAX Football Club have been promoted into the Premier Soccer League after winning the Zifa Division One title.
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services financially supported side won their last league encounter 2-0 away against Ruwa at Chiremba Stadium to secure a ticket to the PSL. Buffaloes, who had an opportunity to catch Tenax had the Blessing Madombi coached Chauya Chikara slipped on the last day of the season defeated Green Fuel 2-1 in Mutare with the result not enough to secure a return to the PSL for the army side.
Simon Munemo and Malvern Dumbura scored the goals for the Farai Mugumwa captained Tenax who ended the season with 68 points while Buffaloes finished with 65.
Stefan Masina, the Tenax chairman said they were thrilled to finally get promoted since the team had been playing Division One football for nine years without going up to the next level.
“We are really excited, this team has been playing Division One for nine years and finally we clinched the championship. It was not an easy way, we really worked hard for this promotion,” Masina said.
Tenax were the last team to confirm their place in the PSL next season, with Cranborne Bullets (Northern Region), Whawha (Central Region) and Bulawayo City (Southern Region) already on their way to the country’s top flight.
Bulawayo City as well as Whawha have tasted PSL action before while for Cranborne Bullets and Tenax it will be the first time for them to play at the highest level in the country.
