KILLMANOCK FC — a newly-formed Five-A-Side outfit — got a timely shot in the arm when a local businessman, Peter Leodios, director of Townshend and Butcher donated a playing kit and soccer boots.
Leodios handed over two sets of uniforms and soccer boots to the chairman of Killmanock FC Roy Phiri last Friday. The elated Phiri expressed gratitude for the donation.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Peter Leodios for the kind gesture that he has shown to us by donating soccer boots and two kits. This donation will go a long way in helping the young boys in discovering their talent,” said Phiri.
Phiri appealed for more sponsorship.
“I would like to appeal to other companies to chip in with cash or kind as that will go a long way in lessening the expenses we face on a day to day basis,” said Phiri.
Phiri revealed that their main purpose is to drive off male youths from the streets.
“We are targeting boys from the ages of 8 years old to 19 years old; we want to drive them off the streets so that they concentrate their efforts in playing soccer, thereby avoiding drugs and alcohol,”he said.
Since their club is in infancy Phiri said they are still recruiting.
“We are still recruiting, as of now we have five players and we want to have 15. We want those players who are not affiliated to any club or even those boys who were deemed excess baggage by their teams or those who have a passion in pursuing soccer as a career,”said Phiri.
Leodios indicated that he hopes to see budding talent becoming stars.
“Our main hope is that these boys become the next Peter Ndlovus and earn a decent living through their soccer talent. We will continue sponsoring the junior league to nurture raw talent,” said Leodios.
