IMPROVE the appearance of your home and make it weather-resistant by cladding your building. Cladding is an exterior finishing system meant to protect your home and provide an aesthetically appealing finish.

The type of cladding that you select determines how it will last, but most cladding systems are quite durable and last up to 50 years.

Here are some types of cladding that homeowners can select from depending on what you like.

Stone cladding renders a warm feeling to the building interiors and exteriors. The durability depends on the thickness of the stone, the more thickness the more the durability of the stone. There are different stone options that you can select from such as granite, slate, marble, sandstone, and limestone.

Stone is an eco-friendly material and it can turn your home into a beautiful sanctuary that you would not want to leave.

Homes with stone cladding tend to look more elegant, natural, and earthy.

Wood and timber cladding is widely used in both the interiors and the exteriors of the building. This type of cladding is good because the look of real timber on your home is rustic, warm, welcoming and is aesthetically pleasing. This material holds the natural resistance to decay and it is environmentally friendly.

Its lightness in weight makes it very easy to install.

Brick cladding provides a very rustic feeling to the building interiors and exteriors. You can create various looks and patterns by using different coloured bricks in a brick cladding system. It is a permeable material which absorbs water in the rains but shall eventually dry out. Special attention should be given to sealing the joints so as to prevent rain water from entering the interiors.

Tile cladding is available in various options, designs and sizes. Tile cladding is usually used in bathrooms, kitchens, building exteriors and in areas that need to be highlighted in the interiors.

There are different types of tiles that you can choose from such as ceramic tiles, granite tiles, porcelain tiles, glass tiles and mosaic tiles. Tiles used for the exteriors should be weather resistant and their colours should not fade when exposed to the sun.

Weatherboards are usually made from reconstituted hardwood or timber that can be painted however, you like. They can be fixed to all kinds of underlying material like fibre cement or brick.

However, they may require ongoing maintenance if you want them to stay in good condition.
