DATES for the proposed inaugural Umdala Wethu Charity Cup pitting Zimbabwe traditional giants Highlanders and Dynamos have not been set despite the organisers securing Barbourfields Stadium as the match venue.

Initially the match was set for March 1 but was put on hold as the date clashed with the Bob91 elimination match dubbed as the Battle of Two Cities between Highlanders and Caps United.

Contacted on whether there were new developments on the fundraising match, Jabulani Hadebe, the chief executive officer of the Joshua Nkomo Foundation Trust said everything was set for the match, but await the blessings of the Zimbabwe Football Association.

“From our side everything has been set and we are still waiting for Zifa to inform us about the new dates,” said Hadebe, adding that the Bulawayo City Council had shown a kind gesture by offering Barbourfields Stadium free of charge for the high profile clash.

The Charity Shield Cup was launched by the Joshua Nkomo Foundation Trust together with two other sporting initiatives, a Chess Challenge and Golf Classic in 2013 in a bid to preserve the legacy of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Nkomo.

Among those initiatives only the date of Golf event has been set for July 16 at Chapman Golf Club in Harare. If the Charity Shield Cup comes to fruition, the proceeds will be channelled towards the building of the Joshua Nkomo Museum in Matshe-umhlope.
