The Zimbabwe Polocrosse team finished the seventh best team in the world during the World Cup tournament played in Adina, Australia from the 22-28 April.

On the first day of the tournament team Zim got a baptism of fire losing to the host Australia 24 – 11.

Their next assignment was against their northern neighbours Zambia who also got the better of them handing them a 21-19 defeat in a tightly contested match according to the results.

After Zambia they came back an inspired side and collected points from the USA whom they edged 19-17.

In their semi-final game they came up against Ireland who defeated them 22-18, a result that knocked them out of contention for the top price.

According to online reports all teams played well but were separated by a few brilliant moves here and there.

“Zimbabwe have won it in the last! 26-25! What a comeback. USA will be gutted they lost it in the last two chukkas!

“USA finishes eighth with Zimbabwe in seventh, both will have hoped for higher and both have had some very close matches, even against Australia neither were completely outclassed in the group stages.

“The difference between fifth and eighth in this World Cup is probably only a few brilliant moments, a few well taken goals, a few missed picked ups and a few missed goals. There hasn’t been a lot in it,” wrote Polocrosse Association of Zimbabwe.

At the end of the tournament Australia defeated South Africa in the final to lift the gong while New Zealand fended off stiff challenge from Zambia to lift the bronze medal.

The united Kingdom are number five after seeing off Ireland while Team Zim for their spirited effort when others had already gone grabbed something out of USA to finish at number 7 after posting a 26-25 win.

For winning against the USA team Zim avoided bringing home the wooden stick.

Meanwhile the draw for the next edition has been conducted, it is set for 2023 in South Africa.
