AN unrepentant ex-convict from Kwekwe who was recently released from prison, allegedly fatally stabbed his neighbour following a misunderstanding during a beer drink.

Acting Midlands police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday at around 3am when an ex-convict Ntokozo Ncube (28) fatally stabbed Simbarashe Ruvingo (30) all from Amaveni high-density suburb while drinking beer at Amaveni Shops in Kwekwe. Ncube once served jail for attempted murder.

Asst Insp Mukwende said after committing the crime, Ncube fled to Zhombe in a bid to evade arrest.

“I can confirm that police in Kwekwe are investigating a case of murder where a 30-year-old man died after being attacked with a knife by a man, who was recently released from prison. It is alleged that the suspect Ncube was drinking beer in a nightclub together with Ruvingo at Amaveni Shops. The two were seen by fellow patrons drinking beer together while dancing to music. It is alleged that Ncube suddenly drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ruvingo on the collarbone,” she said.

Asst Insp Mukwende said after stabbing Ruvingo, Ncube dragged him outside but fellow patrons followed the two resulting in Ncube fleeing the scene.

“The other patrons followed behind and upon seeing that the patrons were following behind he turned and chased them away while threatening to stab them. He boarded a car and went away. Ruvingo ran towards Amaveni road and he collapsed on the tarmac. He was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood on the tarmac by his friend, who was following him,” she said.

Asst Insp Mukwende said the suspect was later arrested in Zhombe the same day following a police tip-off.

“The suspect is in police custody and assisting with investigations, he will appear in court soon,” she said.

In an unrelated incident a Kwekwe teenager was killed by unknown assailants before the body was burnt using  tyres and and dumped in a bush.

Asst Insp Mukwende said the body which is yet to be identified was discovered by passersby on Tuesday.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a murder case where a human body was found burnt beyond recognition in a bush in Kwekwe near Gokwe-Kwekwe road. The deceased is estimated to be around 15 years,” she said.
