TWO first-half goals by Aaron Chiwandamidzi and William Kaphuma ensured Herentals recorded their first home victory of the season with a win over Bulawayo City.

Chiwandamidzi put the hosts in front, in the 19th minute, after tapping in a cross from Archimore Majarira who had broken loose from a counter-attack. Bulawayo City then equalised in the 36th minute through a Timothy January volley. But the lead was short lived as William Kapumha restored Herentals’ lead, courtesy of a well taken free-kick minutes before the halfway mark.

Herentals, who had to resort to delaying tactics in the second half, could have won by a greater margin had their strike force, led by skipper Blessing Majarira, been more lethal in front of goal.

An elated Herentals FC coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva described his side’s victory as a welcome development as the team’s main objective is survival and every win counts.

“This is a very positive result in our efforts to survive.

“In the premier league collecting points is very key and we hope to maintain such performances in our upcoming games.

“That said, I am not impressed with the way we continue to fail to convert chances that come our way.

“I think this is one area that we have to work on soon,” he said.

His opposite number, Darlington Dodo, was not impressed.

“I am shocked with the type of football that we witnessed here. A team plays for 15 minutes and then resorts to time wasting for the rest of the 30 minutes and the referees tolerate such. I am shocked and short of words, this is pathetic. Apart from the chances that we failed to bury, the delaying antics by Herentals affected our game plan as it is unbecoming for a coach to resort to such his tactics,” said Dodo.
