CHIVI Rural District Council in Masvingo has received $11,4 million of its allocated $200 million devolution funds from Government and has dedicated it to water and health care provision.

Chivi RDC is seeking to expand the Chombwe piped water scheme under Phase Two of the project meant to provide water to the growth point and to communities along the constructed seven-kilometre pipe line.

The resuscitation of the $8 million Chombwe Piped Water Scheme project has benefited the local communities in terms of irrigation, water for livestock and domestic use with people from five wards in Chivi North and Chivi Central being the major beneficiaries.

In an interview, Council Engineer Ronald Mashapa said council has so far received $11,4 million and is working on the piped water scheme Phase Two, construction of a clinic and a classroom block.

“We have received $11, 4 million and we are working on the second phase of the Chombwe piped water. We completed the first phase which was commissioned by the President and now we have embarked on the second phase. Initially the project did not reach the growth point and so we are now extending the pipelines to reach the growth point. Our focus is to be able to supply water to the communities which are along the pipeline,” he said.

Despite the provision of water the local authority is committed to the health provision and education.

“We are completing the construction of a clinic, Bwanya Clinic and classroom block at Tugwi Mukosi Secondary School,” he said.

Treasury allocated $1,845 billion devolution funds for Masvingo province in the 2021 National budget. Chivi District was allocated $212 million up from $29 million last year.
