A GWERU-BORN Harare-based, music producer, Prince ‘‘Oskid’’ Tapfumaneyi, has denied riding on South Africa-based prolific Zimbabwean music producer and DJ Oskido’s name as a stepping stone in his rise to fame.

The 23-year-old Oskid, who is one of the most sought-after producers told Sunday Life that he owed his success to God, emphasising that his stage name was given to him by fans.

Oskid, who dropped out of school while he was studying for his O-levels said school was never his thing.

“School was just never my thing. If I had continued with that journey I would probably be doomed. But I am happy where I am now and producing is just my life,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say I have used South Africa’s Oskido’s name to rise in the entertainment industry. My interest in music was known even when I was in high school and maybe that was why I was named after South Africa’s Oskido. My interest for music was quite prominent during my high school days and also Oskido was popular at this time,” he said.

Having made his way to the top from being a small time producer, Oskid said he believed that his talent got him where he is today.

He produces for local big names like Winky D, Killer T, Fungisai, Shinsoman and Jah Prayzah.

“It wasn’t an easy road. But it was all God’s blessings that have taken me this far. For me it was just a matter of time to rise in the industry. I believe that my talent got me recognised and appreciated in the industry. Not that I rode on Oskido’s fame,” he said.

Oskid started producing at the age of 16 and was scouted for by a Botswana-based producer, who introduced him to the world.

“At the age of 16 I was already being sought after in Botswana. One guy actually requested that I come to Botswana and by that time I had no passport, and he offered to help me get one. I then worked there for about a year and six months,” he said.

Oskid has since established a recording studio in Harare, where he produced hit songs such as Winky D’s Disappear.

“All I know is that I have not yet reached my destiny, but I will get to where I am going. For a young man like me to own a recording studio is an achievement and I believe I still have more to offer in the entertainment industry,” he said.
