DJEMBE Monks founding band member, Ndumiso “Black Cee” Tshuma has quit after deciding to take a gospel route.
His departure came a day after his 30th birthday. He posted on his Facebook page that he was grateful for the time he had spent with the Tribal House outfit.

“Thank you so much for the birthday messages, yesterday was a big day for me. I entered into the third decade of my life having answered the call from God. I am proud to announce that I am a servant of God now hence my departure from the music industry due to my commitments in business, church and family. I will miss the decs big time, I love you all!! Ngiyabonga mina,” read the post.
Black Cee leaves Djembe Monks at a time when the band has set their sights on international markets. They have collaborated with Italian producer and founder of the Opilec music, Gianluca Pandullo. Black Cee said his heart and soul will always be with Djembe Monks.

“Djembe Monks will always be in my heart big time. You guys are family till the end,” read another post on his Facebook wall.
In an interview with Sunday Leisure, one of the group members Emmanuel “Rootz” Nkomo confirmed that Tshuma had picked up the Bible and was indeed leaving secular music.

“It is true that Tshuma is leaving the group. He is set to focus on family and other issues like he has said when you interviewed him,” said Nkomo.

Nkomo said they had no plans of replacing him soon.

“He is irreplaceable. He has much more talent than a dozen figure combined. You won’t see much of him but he still plays a very big part when he has time,” said Nkomo.

The three-man band is back in the studio, working on their third project.

“Right now we are in the studio doing an experimental mix of ethnic traditional drums, afro jazz and exciting vocal combinations from artistes like Mzoe 7, Willis Watafii, Tehn Diamond Luke De Lukes, hopefully Patience Musa, Vee Mukarati and a few others that are extremely talented musicians,” he said.

During the festive season the band will perform in Bulawayo, Harare and Victoria Falls.

“Our main focus is on making new collaborations and producing lovely pieces of work in our coming project,” he said.
