POLICE in Gweru have arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend and left her for dead before attempting to commit suicide after she ditched him for another man.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday last week when Bruce Siwela of Mkoba allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend Daphine Ndebele after she refused to reconcile with him.
Insp Goko said Siwela also attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself on the neck in an attempt to save himself from the blushes and evade arrest. He said on the fateful day Siwela went to see Ndebele at her house in Mkoba 18 seeking to persuade her to reconcile with him. Insp Goko said Ndebele refused to reconcile with Siwela and this angered him resulting in an altercation between the two.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of attempted murder where a man from Mkoba stabbed his ex-girlfriend several times all over the body before stabbing himself on the neck after the woman refused to reconcile with him.”
Insp Goko said the two are battling for life at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
“The matter was reported to police. The complainant and the suspect were found unconscious at the scene and they were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where they are receiving treatment. Siwela will be charged with attempted murder once he recuperates. We appeal to the public to desist from violence and always seek counselling whenever there is a misunderstanding.”
