A SUNNINGDALE family has been subject to harassment and attacks after their relative, a cruise ship worker recently left the country after he got a job offer abroad.

The family of Brian Hamandishe Madzinga, who is also a known opposition political activist, having served as the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Chairman for Sunningdale 2 (Ward 10), is said to be the subject of the attacks by alleged members of the Central Intelligence Organisation.

This comes after Madzinga left the country to resume his employment on a Cruise ship.

Madzinga was previously accused of being part of a militia wing of the MDC that was trained in America and sent back to Zimbabwe with the intention of toppling the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Family sources revealed that Madzinga had been abducted and tortured for 20 days, where he was warned to quit supporting the opposition party or risk further attacks.

“Madzinga was initially abducted in August 2021 and according to his account, he was tortured in a disused factory in Harare. He was accused to have been initially brought back to Zimbabwe on an MDC-chartered plane after the so-called military training.

“He was only released after 20 days, with the abductors dumping him at Mbare’s Rufaro stadium, leaving him for dead and he was quite traumatized. He was warned with unspecified action if he continued to support the opposition and told that he, together with his family were under surveillance,” said a source, who declined to be named, fearing victimization.

Madzinga is said to have reported the alleged abduction to the police but this proved fruitless as he was accused of staging the event and further accused of arrest for making a false report.

The source revealed that Madzinga later managed to receive his air ticket to return to the cruise ship which saw him having to leave the country.

“Madzinga was reluctant to leave the country fearing that he was going to be arrested and once again subjected to torture at the Robert Mugabe International Airport, luckily though he managed to fly out.

“However, the attacks then shifted to his wife and brother, as they were now being accused of aiding his escape from the country, they have been constantly beaten and told that this will stop once they eventually manage to capture Madzinga,” said the family source.
