Family buries head, shoulders after crocodile attack

A Mwenezi family was left to take home for burial a head and shoulders of their 16-year-old daughter after she was attacked and devoured by a crocodile while fishing at a dam with friends.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred in Shiswine Dam which borders West Nicholson and Mwenezi areas.

He said Adonete Ncube was attacked by the crocodile on Wednesday around 7pm and her remains were retrieved the following day.

“There is 16-year-old female juvenile who was attacked by a crocodile while fishing with her friends on Wednesday around 7pm. The matter was reported to the police and a sub aqua team was deployed to the scene the following day.

“The team failed to locate the body and around 5pm a crocodile was seen feeding on the juvenile’s body. The crocodile had devoured most of the juvenile’s body and only her head and shoulders were retrieved,” he said.

Insp Ndebele said the remains were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary.-@DubeMatutu
