BIKITA Rural District Council in Masvingo has been allocated $400 million from the Devolution purse which will be used to build a classroom block, five clinics, drilling of 24 boreholes, and procure a refuse compactor.

In addition, part of the money will also be used to rehabilitate at least 150 kilometres of road infrastructure.

In an interview, Bikita Rural District chief executive officer Mr Peter Chibhi said that the local authority’s intention of building more clinics was to reduce the distance walked by patients to the nearest health centres.

“Under health, our intention is to construct five clinics throughout the district, in Bikita East there is Muteke clinic in ward 25, Nerumedzo clinic in ward 15, in Bikita West, Chivaka clinic in ward 19 and Dungu clinic in ward 12 and in Bikita South Tafara clinic in ward 3. Our intention is to reduce the distance walked by patients to the nearest health centre and at the same time reduce maternal and child deaths,” he said.

Mr Chimbi said that the other part of the funds will go towards the construction of a double block at Chendinga Secondary which is a satellite school so that it can become a formal school.

“Under education we want to put up one double block at Chendinga Secondary School so that it can become a formal school. We want to have another classroom block so that learners can start writing their examinations at the school.”

Mr Chibhi said that under water and sanitation they are targeting to drill about 24 boreholes which are bush pump boreholes, eight in each of the three districts and six which will be solarised at various institutions.
