ONE of the country’s fast rising gospel ensemble, Gospel Unplugged is set for another adventurous project after its successful concert which was done in honour of people living with disabilities last year.

The group has worked hard to make an impact in the arts industry and they are set to hold auditions in search of new talent as preparation for the Christian musical dubbed “Ukholo” which will take centre stage in Blues café on 9 February.

Perhaps the Christian Musical will be the first of its kind in the City of Kings and the founder of Gospel Unplugged Sam Chokuda expressed excitement on breaking ground with such a big project that will lure people to Christ.

“All is set for the big occasion and we are overwhelmed with the response that we have been getting from the populace. We believe that this is one unique project which is going to change the country’s arts as well as people’s lives by bringing them to Christ,” Chokuda said.

“This particular project has been influenced by the outside world as many are shifting away from the Christian world and as a way of bringing people to Christ we thought why not come up with a massive project which will catch people’s eyes. Ukholo the musical serves as a remainder about Christianity, how it began and how it is now hence the name of the musical.

“This is going to be one big project for the Christian world and we are working on bringing many artistes to the project. We have Carlos Jiri, Brian Kamuzamu already on the project and we believe with their influence many people will audition. Jeffrey Sibanda, a well known scriptwriter is the brain of every play we will be doing and this is going to be an exciting project,” he said.

The auditions will only be held in Bulawayo but candidates from around the country are welcome to auditions as it will be free of charge.

“We will only hold auditions in Bulawayo but we encourage that people from all corners of the country to be part of this great project, as Ukholo the musical discovers talent and natures it. Surely along the long run it shall expand to various places as it is our hope and wish to do so,” he said.
