LOCAL artistes based abroad always seem to hit the right notes when it comes to launching their music careers and marketing it to the rest of the world.

After nurturing his career in hip-hop for the past 18 years in Canada Toronto, Andrew Mhlengi Dube going by the moniker King Dube believes that in the music industry patience is a virtue and being your best critic is the antidote.

“I have been in the music industry for about a year now. I’ve loved hip-hop since I was a child but started practicing my art when I was 17 but never wanted to go public until my music was where I imagined it to be then came my official debut in my smash hit Depot which I released in 2015. One of the most difficult things as an artiste can be trying to find the lane that suits you best so I urge my entire Zimbabwean artiste take their time and find their sound,” said King Dube.

His roots are traced deep in Gwanda though he was born in Japan and left with his mother for Canada when he was six years.

He uses a rare moniker in the international music industry, and many would assume that it would be difficult to blend in and make an impact, but King Dube believes that originality sets one above from the rest.

“My stage name is King Dube. King because that’s what I feel I’ve grown to be and Dube because that’s my surname which I am proud of,” he said.

Is there any secret formula?

King Dube strongly believes that like in any career, serious management is key to achieving any goals.

Unlike most artistes King Dube isn’t shy of stating his mission as he admits that he is yet to try different genres as his career progresses and further diversify into fashion.
