THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is investigating Cement Side Primary School head in Imbizo District, Bulawayo for alleged misuse of school funds amid reports that parents have called for her removal from the school.

Acting Bulawayo provincial education director Mrs Ollicah Kaira said the matter has come to her attention and investigations were being carried out.

“I was informed of what was taking place at Cement Side Primary School and we are carrying out internal investigations to establish the truth. We are going to engage the parents and the authorities,” she said.

Parents in Cement Side are accusing the school head, Ms Jennifer Mpofu of allegedly forcing them to pay huge sums of money to buy a new bus. The parents allege that Ms Mpofu went on to connive with the School Development Committee (SDC) and bought a secondhand bus instead of a new one which they had initially agreed to buy.

Allegations against Ms Mpofu came to light during an emergency meeting which was called by Imbizo District Schools Inspector (DSI), Mr Misheck Ngwenya. So tense was the meeting that the parents walked out.

However, asked to comment Ms Mpofu said: “I am not aware of what they are talking about. I have done nothing but to respect the parents and I have tried to work amicably with them.’’
